    India Post is celebrating 150 Years (Sesquicentennial Anniversary) in the year 2004. On 1st October 1854 Indian Post was placed under unitary control of Director General of Post Office in India and the first postage stamp was released on an all India basis. The Postal history goes along with the history of our freedom struggle. Ever since its inception it has been growing along with the overall progress of the country and it is now the second largest establishment in the country after Railways.

    India Post is turning around from its traditional mould to a modern IT based organization to compete and thrive in the face of challenges in the communication market. Counter services are already   computerised in main Post Offices, and is in the process of extending it to all Post Offices.
